Celebrations in traditional Greek style
In Kea Village, we support local tradition and we honour folk artists who, with their zest and their jokes, add cheer and liveness in weddings and fêtes. In To Spiti Sti Chora, we hold evenings dedicated to them to honour them but also to give the chance to Greek and foreign visitors to get to know them.
Like the summer of 2016, on a special evening honouring the great, self-taught folk instrument player, our beloved ‘Antonakis’ with his violin, who for decades now is the heart of every celebration and fête in Kea.
Or the evening when folk tradition combined with modern art, and the youth of Kea was teaching dance steps accompanied by the tune of folk instruments, violin, lute and bagpipes.
Or the French organisers of the Oedipus Tyrannus (Oedipus Rex) performance staged in Kea by the Demodocos theatre team from the University of Sorbonne, who danced to authentic music and tunes of Kea.
The actors wore costumes and wooden masks reproducing the ancient music with a dance group of eight accompanied by ancient music instruments, one of which was the lyre.
